Exeter operates through both an advisory and an investment entity.  Exeter Real Estate Advisors provides investment advisory, asset management, project management, and consulting services to clients.  Exeter Realty Capital Partners functions as an investment entity to raise capital and invest in deals through the capital resources of its partners located in Boston, New York, and Washington D.C.

Dana Rowan

Managing Director

Dana Rowan has over 40 years of real estate experience working on acquisition, development and investment advisory projects. The scope of his professional career in real estate includes project finance, raising equity capital, structuring partnerships, formulating investment strategies, master planning development, acquiring and disposing of assets, repositioning underperforming assets, recapitalizing projects and providing strategic and tactical solutions to enhance investment performance at the individual asset and portfolio levels.  Over the course of his career, Mr Rowan has worked out, restructured and disposed of roughly $3.0 billion of distressed and underperforming assets nationally for both debtors and creditors and as a bankruptcy trustee.  During the most recent recession, Mr. Rowan served as a workout and restructuring consultant nationally for developers, private equity funds, family trusts and major banks including Bank of America.     

Since 2003, Mr. Rowan has served as Managing Director of The Exeter Companies where he oversees all aspects of the firm’s real estate acquisition, development and investment advisory activities both nationally and internationally. During these past 14 years he has run the real estate investment operation of two fund based private equity firms, two global NY metro hedge funds, and has been a joint venture partner of three national real estate investment and development enterprises based in Chicago, New York and Boston. Prior to that he served as national head of Asset Management and subsequently SVP of Corporate and Portfolio Strategy for a fund-based private equity firm headquartered in Boston with $2.0 billion in real estate assets under management.  He also served as national head of acquisitions for Metropolitan Properties of America which at the time had a portfolio of 8,000 apartment units in seven states and was Yale University Endowment’s lead investor nationally for apartments.  Mr. Rowan started his professional real estate career as an investment officer with the Prudential Insurance Company of America where he was responsible for originating and closing roughly $500 million in equity transactions annually for the company’s $3.5 Billion regional portfolio in New England as well as assisting with complex transactions in the New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DC regional offices.  Mr. Rowan is the past national chairman and director emeritus of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association (www.naiop.org). He is also a long-time member of the Urban Land Institute, the Real Estate Finance Association and the Real Estate Investment and Advisory Council. Mr. Rowan is a charter steering committee member of Harvard University’s Real Estate Academic Initiative, the past chairman of the Harvard Kennedy School’s global alumni association, a recent director of the university-wide Harvard Alumni Association, a recent elected member of the Dartmouth College Alumni Council  and the current Chair of the Trustees of the Boston Architectural College, one of the largest and oldest architecture and design schools in the US. Mr. Rowan holds a BA in Geography and Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College, an MPP in Finance and Urban Economic Development from the Harvard Kennedy School and an Executive MBA from Boston University Questrom School of Management.
